The Securities and Exchange Board of India, which is controlled by the Indian government, regulates the securities and commodity markets in the country. The SEBI Act of 1992 created it in 1988 and granted it legislative powers in 1992. The Foreign Exchange Management Act of 1999 is a law passed by the Indian Parliament with the aim of "consolidating and amending the law relating to foreign exchange with the purpose of facilitating external trade and payments and encouraging the orderly growth and preservation of the foreign exchange market in India." The Reserve Bank of India is India's central bank and administrative body.
