Information technology is the methodology of using computers and the internet to store, manipulate and manage data mainly in the field of business and other enterprises. Cyberspace is the widespread network of digital technology that is used not only for the purposes of business but also for personal use of the common man. There is a need to regulate the activities between these actors and service providers in the cyberspace by the government due to its vast reach and the cyberspace is a platform that has its advantages and disadvantages. The objectives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is to providing support for development of e-Skills and Knowledge network, securing Indias cyberspace, enhancing Indias role in Global Platforms of Internet Governance and implementing a R&D framework. Information technology laws were passed in order to keep a regulation on the activities on the cyber space as well as fulfill these objectives.

Information technology laws that were enacted for these purposes are as follows:

1) Information Technology Act, 2000

2) Right to Information Act, 2005
