India-Japan-Australia supply chain in the work to counter China

India, Japan and Australia have begun the discussion on forming a trilateral Supply Chain Resilience Initiative (SCRI) to curtail reliance on China.

The dates are being worked out to hold the first meeting of commerce and trade minister of the 3 countries and the first initiative is taken by Japan. Tokyo was in favour of initiating SCRI by November, according to sources.

After China's aggressive move to the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, the government is taking this strategy quite seriously.

SCRI is a direct response to individual companies and economics restless about Chinese political behaviour and the disturbance that could lead to supply chains according to sources.

This was one of the key themes for PM Modi's Independence day speech, as he said that businesses have started viewing India as a "hub for supply chains" and now India furthermore "make for the world".
