Center Government, Rs. 50 lakh announces as a compensation for port employees in case of death due to COVID-19 till September 30, 2020.
New Delhi: Government of India on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, announced a compensation of Rs. 50 lakh for the port employees in case of death due to COVID-19, while they are discharging their duties.
There are many measures or relief, announced by Government for their Citizens of India, during this Lockdown. The announcement for compensation is one of them, for the port employees, who are discharging their duties, even in the lockdown, for all of us. So, they are also deserve the respect or relief just like Doctors and Police Officers.
The compensation, which are declared for the port employees/workers in case of any death due to COVID-19 and all port employees includes Contractual labourers employed directly by the port and other contractual employees are covered under it. This statement said by the Ministry of Shipping. It means that the Ministry of Shipping has decided that all the major ports may grant compensation/ex-gratia loss of their life due to COVID-19 to the dependent members/legal heirs of the port employees.
Ministry of Shipping decided and announced that a monetary compensation of Rs. 50 lakh for people employed with major ports in the country, in case they lose their lives to COVID-19 and employees includes direct employees as well as contractual labourers, they will be given Monetary Compensation.
In India, there are 12 Major Ports and the few of them are: Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mumbai, JNPT, Cochin.
Ministry of Shipping also said that Monetary Compensation of Rs. 50 lakh is declared to cover the risk of life due to COVID-19 Red Zones, while discharging their duties.
The competent authority that is Port Chairman and who will settling claims and distributing the compensation and also verifying the cause of death and “The Compensation of Rs. 50 lakh will be applicable only for the pandemic of COVID-19 and shall be in force up to September 30, 2020 and thereafter it will be reviewed”.
