Zomato dismiss 13 per cent workforce and nearly 50 per cent salary cut for rest.
NEW DELHI: Zomato, an Indian restaurant aggregator and food delivery platform. On Friday, May 15, 2020, it said that going to dismiss around 13 per cent of the workforce and also decided to nearly 15 per cent salary cut for rest, due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
Zomato is very famous in every city, to order our food and get it at the doorsteps but this pandemic creates many difficulties for everyone. So now no-one wants to order their foods on online platform because it may be dangerous for them. The company has approx. 4,000 employees working on different roles but now the situation is, not everyone get the work due to COVID-19 since last two months.
Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said number of aspects of company’s business have changed dramatically in the last two months and by considering the situation of the country, many of these changes are expected to be permanent and he also said “While we continue to build a more focused Zomato, we do not foresee having enough work for all our employees. We owe all our colleagues a challenging work environment, but we won’t be able to offer that to around 13 per cent of our workforce going forward”.
So, he decided to dismiss some of their employees, who no longer have any work at Zomato, but for their financial support, the employees will continue to be with the company’s contact and get the 50% salary for next six months and these employees have full support to look forward their future and find other jobs outside of Zomato.
Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said that the company will provide these employees outplacement support and also provide health insurance for next six months or as soon as they find other jobs.
By considering the impact on company and the company’s financial condition, Goyal said that it is very necessary for the company, from starting June for a temporary reduction in salary for the entire organization. And those employees have lower salary undergo lower cut and those employees have higher salary, higher cut (up to 50%). This will continue till the company’s economy become normal.
